Here are some of the things you\u2019ll get up to with your new friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Exploring the great outdoors<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll spend lots of time outside with your Colony. Together, you might build a den, or go on a trip to the seaside, or host a Beaver sleepover beneath the stars. And even though you might not be ready to climb Mount Everest just yet, you\u2019re guaranteed to have plenty of adventures on your own doorstop, because being a Beaver is all about making the most of what you have, wherever and whoever you are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Trying new activities and learning new things<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Going to Beavers is very different from going to school. Instead of learning from books, you\u2019ll figure the world out by exploring, playing and doing. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The most important skills you\u2019ll learn at Beavers are the ones that will make you feel super strong standing on your own two feet. We call these character skills. They include things like integrity \u2013 which means being honest and doing what you think is right \u2013 and initiative \u2013 which means knowing how to take the lead on something without being asked. It\u2019s all about having the courage to try new things and learn from them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Helping others<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Beavers<\/strong>&nbsp;work as a team to help other people, in their local communities and beyond. Whether they\u2019re changing the whole world or helping a friend take the leap to try something new on a rainy Tuesday night, they always lend a hand.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-white-background-color has-background is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who Leads Beavers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Each Colony is made up of young people aged 6 to 8, led by an adult Beaver leader. Other adult volunteers are on hand to supervise activities, share their skills and keep everyone safe. In some groups, Beaver leaders are nicknamed after characters from nature, books or films. In others, Beavers call their leader by their real first name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Within their Colony, some Beavers are also part of a&nbsp;<strong>Lodge<\/strong>. A Lodge is a smaller group of Beavers, usually headed up by a young person who takes on a peer leadership role (sometimes known as a Lodge Leader or Junior Leader).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Being a peer leader is about being a superhero for a little while \u2013 doing things like welcoming new people to the Colony, being extra helpful during a camp, or taking charge of a game or activity. Everyone takes it in turns to take on the challenge.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beavers usually stand together in their Lodges at the beginning and end of meetings. They tend to stick together on trips away, or during certain activities.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns has-scout-blue-background-color has-background is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading has-white-color has-text-color\">Beaver leaders<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:26px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color\">All of our leaders are trained volunteers, working to make sure Scouting is safe, inclusive and accessible.&nbsp;Some lead the Colony week in and week out. Others visit occasionally to help run a session or drop in to share their skills.
